Who Is Kannan ?
International Mentalist & Magician
Engineer turned Into International Mentalist & Magician in India.
Hello, I am Kannan Purusothaman. I am a premier Mentalist & Magician in India with a massive passion for entertaining people. While my degree says “Engineer,” my heart has always said “Corporate Entertainer.”
My journey took a life-changing turn when I left a conventional career to join the world-renowned Carnival Cruise Line (USA). As a headline performer on the high seas, I didn’t just perform magic; I connected with audiences from over 20+ different nationalities as a global mentalist.
“I traveled the globe to master the art of the show. Now, I have returned to my roots to bring that same world-class, Las Vegas-style Mentalism & Magic Illusion to audiences in Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad & Pan India.”
A Digital Sensation in Mentalism
The world is watching. In just a short span of 6 months, my unique blend of mind-reading and visual magic has taken the internet by storm, establishing me as a top Mentalist & Magician in India.

My Journey
"My journey began with a simple goal to impress my wife, but it evolved into a rigorous mastery of magic and psychology.
By dedicating six hours a day to practicing 'hardcore' techniques and researching the inner workings of the human mind, I have developed a unique style of hyper-visual performance."
Through learning, practicing, and mastering magic, I gained enough confidence to enter my first national-level competition. I received a national award for 'Hyper-Visual Magic,' and that success gave me the confidence to start my career as a professional magician.
"Although I was an engineer by profession working for a major MNC, I realized my heart was in entertaining people. I decided to quit my job and join Carnival Cruise Line (USA) as a full-time entertainer."
After dazzling audiences in over 20 countries across the globe while performing eight hours a day on cruise ships, I evolved into a true professional entertainer and a master of magic, mentalism, and public speaking. Now, I have decided to return to India to deliver world-class entertainment as a premier Mentalist & Magician in India for corporate and private events

Frequently Asking Questions
What Is Close Up Magic?
Close-up magic is a highly skilled form of entertainment where illusions are performed just inches away from the audience. Unlike a stage show, there is no distance between the performer and the guests.
The magic happens right in your hands and with your own belongings—like coins, rings, or cards. Because it is performed so closely, it requires incredible sleight of hand and “presence of mind.”
The magician must be quick-thinking and adaptable to interact with people in real-time, making the impossible happen right under their noses.
What is called Busking Magic?
A Magic Stall is a fixed-station performance where the magician stays in one spot with a professional table and equipment, and the audience comes to them. It is a highly visual form of close-up magic perfect for carnivals, festivals, and outdoor events.
Why it works better for events:
Superior Performance: With a dedicated table, the magician can perform complex, high-impact illusions that aren’t possible while walking around.
Audio & Visibility: Using mini-speakers or body-worn amps, the magician ensures the show is audible and professional, even in noisy crowds.
Crowd Magnet: The stall creates a “hub” of energy, naturally drawing people in to form a crowd without needing a formal stage.
Versatile: It offers a “big show” feel in any non-stage environment, providing a polished and interactive experience for everyone.
What is called Mentalism
What is Mentalism?
Mentalism is a highly skilled performing art that focuses on the power of the mind. While a traditional magician uses “sleight of hand” with objects like cards or coins, a Mentalist uses “sleight of mind” to perform incredible feats of mind reading, psychology, and influence.
What to expect during a Mentalism performance:
Mind Reading: The performer can guess secret numbers, names, or words you are only thinking of.
Predictions: The Mentalist proves they knew exactly what choices you would make before the show even started.
Psychological Influence: Using body language and “presence of mind,” the performer can guide your thoughts in a way that feels like real magic.
No Props Needed: Because the magic happens inside your head, it is the most personal and interactive form of entertainment.
Why it’s perfect for events:
Mentalism is a “grown-up” style of magic that is sophisticated, clean, and leaves the audience asking: “How did he know that?” It is the ultimate ice-breaker for corporate events, weddings, and private parties because it involves everyone’s imagination.
What Is Modern Magic?
Modern Magic for a Modern Audience “Drawing from my international experience across 20+ countries, I have redefined magic for the contemporary stage. I take the core principles of the ‘old school’ masters and reinvent them using modern technology and daily interactions. Whether it’s manipulating a digital screen or reading a mind through a smartphone, I craft high-quality magic designed to dazzle the modern Indian audience.”
Why Kannan The Showman?
Why “Kannan The Showman”? “I chose the name ‘Kannan The Showman’ because the word ‘Magician’ doesn’t fully cover what I do. I am a versatile artist: a Mentalist, Master of Ceremonies (MC), Motivational Speaker, Mind Coach, and Entertainment Planner.
My true strength isn’t just in performing magic tricks; it is in my interaction with the audience. I am a ‘people person’ who thrives on public speaking and connection. My clients often tell me that my positivity, humility, and charisma are what keep them engaged for hours. I don’t just deliver a show; I deliver Showmanship, a unique persona, and an unforgettable experience.”
Why should I hire a Mentalist in India for my corporate event?
A: Hiring a professional Mentalist in India like Kannan adds a layer of sophistication and intellectual entertainment that standard magicians cannot provide.
Do you perform outside of Chennai?
Yes! While I am based in the south, I am a traveling Mentalist in India performing regularly in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Pan India.
What is the difference between a magician and a mentalist?
A magician uses props, while a premier Mentalist in India uses psychology, influence, and mind-reading to engage the audience.
